Happy May Day!!

Every year when I was in grade and high school we had a "May Day" event. We dressed in lovely pastel lavender, yellow, pink and blue dresses---with a sprig of flowers tucked in our hair and danced around the decorated may pole.

Before or after school we would go around our neighborhood with our colorful "May Baskets" we had made filled with popcorn, candy and a few flowers. We delivered them to our friends doorstep, rang the door bell and quickly hide behind a bush till they went inside...what a fun and wonderful memory!

I finished a quilt for our bed and a friend quilted it with her long arm machine....

... Miss Abbie just had to pose!!!

wishing all a "Happy May Day"!

Hugs, Carolyn

  1. Great memories! I don't think we ever had a maypole, but I do remember delivering May baskets and running! Life was so much simpler (and better) back then. Great quilt!

  2. We only got to dance the Maypole when we were in third grade, but when I was in second grade they were short a few kids in the third grade, so I got to do it two years. I loved it!
Very nice finish for your bed!

  7. I didn't have any May Day event either, but when my sons were young, we made baskets and took them to their 2 great grandmothers. We rang the door bell and ran. What fun. Your quilt is lovely. Neutrals are fun to work with. And Miss Abby likes it too

  8. Does anyone still celebrate May Day? I remember making little paper baskets to hold flowers. Ringing the bell and running was such fun! I need to talk to some of my friends with small kids about bringing this tradition back - they can start with my house!
